Which vineyards in Denmark can you visit?

By Jesper Rye Jensen, winegrower and owner of Vesterhave VingaardUpdated 2026

Denmark has 146 grape growers, and this guide lists 19 vineyards you can visit on Zealand, Funen and the islands, Jutland and Bornholm. Most offer guided tours or tastings, and many have a farm shop. Vesterhave Vingaard in Karrebæksminde, South Zealand, is Denmark’s largest organic vineyard and about one hour from Copenhagen.

I grow wine by the sea in South Zealand, and guests often ask me which other Danish vineyards are worth a visit. That is a fair question, and this guide is my honest answer. It lists 19 vineyards that VisitDenmark presents as open to visitors, sorted by region, not by ranking.

Danish vineyards are small, and many of them are run by the family who planted the vines. Opening hours change with the season, so check each vineyard’s own website before you go. If you want to know more about the grapes and styles first, read our guide to Danish wine.

Quality

What are the best vineyards in Denmark?

There is no official ranking of Danish vineyards, so the most useful guide is independent reviews and awards. In a 2025 tasting reported by Wine Anorak, the Danish wines scored between 88 and 94 points out of 100.

A few vineyards stand out in the sources. VisitDenmark notes that Ørnberg Vin was named Denmark’s best winery in 2014 and calls Skærsøgaard Denmark’s first and most award-winning winery. At Vesterhave Vingaard, the Austrian wine magazine Falstaff gave our red wine Blå Lagune 2019 96 points, and Sort Lagune 3 received 93 points.

My advice as a grower: choose by what you want from the day. For the best wine, look for vineyards with independent scores. For a full day out, pick one with a tour, food and perhaps a room for the night. For scenery, choose a coastal vineyard. Many Danish vineyards are close to the sea, where the water reduces the risk of spring frost, according to Wine Anorak (2025).

  • Blå Lagune 2019, red: 96 points (Falstaff)
  • Sort Lagune 3, red: 93 points (Falstaff)
  • Hvid Lagune, white: 90 to 92 points (Falstaff)
  • Rosa Lagune, rosé: 89 to 91 points (Falstaff)

Practical tips

How do you plan a vineyard visit in Denmark?

A good vineyard visit in Denmark takes a little planning, because vineyards are small and opening hours are seasonal. Here are six tips from a grower.

  1. Pick a region

Zealand is closest to Copenhagen. Funen, Jutland and Bornholm work best as part of a longer trip around Denmark.

  2. Check the season

Many Danish vineyards have seasonal opening hours. At Vesterhave Vingaard the harvest takes place in September and October, when the grapes hang ripe on the vines.

  3. Book ahead

Tours and tastings often run on fixed dates or for groups, so book before you travel instead of turning up unannounced.

  4. Plan the transport

Someone should be able to drive after a tasting, or you can combine train and taxi. Plan public transport with Rejseplanen.

  5. Ask questions

Ask the grower about frost, grape varieties and how the year has been. A Danish vineyard is small, so you often meet the person who planted the vines.

  6. Take a bottle home

Danish wine is rarely sold abroad. Statistics Denmark (2024) reports that exports were DKK 2 million out of DKK 34 million in sales in 2023, so the farm shop is often the best place to buy it.

Our vineyard

What is a visit to Vesterhave Vingaard like?

A visit to Vesterhave Vingaard is a guided walk through organic vineyards by the sea, a look inside the winery and a tasting of usually 4 to 6 wines. We are in Karrebæksminde, South Zealand, about one hour by car from Copenhagen and about 15 minutes from Næstved.

Our vines grow right by Smålandshavet. The water protects them against night frost in spring and gives the grapes a longer ripening season in autumn. We pick by hand, and we dry part of the red grapes before pressing. That method is called appassimento, and it gives our Amarone-inspired reds their depth.

The tasting takes place in the tasting room or on the covered pergola terrace. You can add a tapas platter with local cheeses and homemade bread. If you want to stay longer, we have two suites: one looks out over the vineyard, the other over both the vineyard and the sea. Check-in is from 15:00 and check-out by 11:00.

International guests can find more practical details, including how to get here from Copenhagen, on our page about wine tasting near Copenhagen. Curious about our white grape? Read about the Solaris grape.
